Minnesota is full of tech companies, but none of them do what we do. The primary difference between us and the tech nerds is that they can only do what they have been trained to do. Geeks are great. Some of them are our friends, and sometimes we even call them in to help us with jobs that require a skill set that we don’t have time to acquire. But when it comes to helping your business, the standard tech geek is missing some important skills.
1. Nerds don’t interact well with other humans.
It’s not their fault, they just don’t communicate well. Most tech guys can fix your problem (at $150 an hour), but they can’t explain anything to you. We are very comfortable teaching you and your employees how to solve tech problems on your own and how to use technology in an efficient way. Tech shouldn’t be a hassle, and you should be able to interact with it on your own.
2. They don’t know anything about running a business.
Nerds just fix tech problems. They don’t care what it costs you, they get paid by the hour, and they don’t know how to help your business. We’ve run a number of companies on our own and we understand what it takes to make a business successful. A nerd just doesn’t understand how to help you make more money, because that isn’t their job and they’ve probably never done it.
3. They think in straight lines.
We love creative problem solving, but our nerd friends don’t seem to have any interest in it. They know how to read a book and how to fix a problem when they see it again, but a good long term solution often requires some non-linear thinking and a little creativity. Nerds are not known for their creativity or ability to think outside the box. We are.
4. They work for The Man.
They get paid by the hour by a company that has a million more nerds waiting in line behind them. Why should they really care about your problem? Our advantage is that we aren’t a huge business that sends out whichever nerd shows up that day. We send the best person for your business, and there aren’t a lot of choices because there aren’t many people like us. In almost every case you’ll talk to Adam or Chris, the co-owners of the business. If a geek is necessary we can call them in and deal with them because we’ve spent enough time around them over the years to speak their language*.
If you’re tired of dealing with overpriced tech guys who recommend expensive solutions and rarely fix a problem permanently, give us a call. We might change the way you do business.
*We don’t speak conversational nerd, but we can translate in a pinch.
